WORKSHOP’S AIM
THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE THE PARTICIPANTS WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NEEDED TO PERFORM ALL TYPES OF SLEEP STUDIES. PARTICIPANTS OF THE PROGRAM WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE AND INTERACT EFFECTIVELY WITH SLEEP DISORDERS PATIENTS. THEY ARE TRAINED IN THE PHYSICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF SLEEP DISORDERS, FAMILIARITY WITH THE DIFFERENT SLEEP DISORDERS, APPLICATION OF MONITORING ELECTRODES UTILIZING THE 10-20 INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM AS WELL AS OTHER ANCILLARY MONITORING EQUIPMENT, CALIBRATE MONITORING EQUIPMENT, AND UTILIZE PROPER MONTAGE AND PROTOCOL USED DURING PSG STUDIES.
THERE WILL BE GOOD EXPOSURE TO THE SCORING OF SLEEP RECORDS.

Course Objectives
At the completion of this course, the participants should know about:
Ø Have a good understanding of normal and abnormal sleep patterns.
Ø Demonstrate a basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of sleep.
Ø Recognize life threatening cardiac dysrhythmias.
Ø Understand the operation of common ancillary equipment.
Ø Perform a complete patient hookup for overnight polysomnography.
Ø Initiate, monitor, and complete an overnight polysomnographic study.
Ø Understand the process of scoring.
Ø Apply Positive Airway Pressure and oxygen therapy.

Lecture 2: EMG and Movement Disorders + Scoring Limb movements
Lecture 3: Parasomnias and Seizure Disorders
Lecture 4: Overview of Insomnia
Lecture 5: Cardiovascular Monitoring

DAY 4: Sleep Related Breathing Disorders Treatment
Lecture 1: Overview of PAP therapy
Lecture 2: Performing CPAP and Bi-level PAP titration
Lecture 3: Follow up and enhancing Adherence to PAP therapy
Lecture 4: Guidelines for Supplemental Oxygen
Lecture 5: Alternative Treatments for Sleep Apnea

DAY 5: Scoring Sleep Studies, MSLT, Assessment of Daytime Sleepiness, Recognition and Correction of Artifact
Lecture 1: Advanced Adult and Pediatric Sleep Stage Scoring
